It was fall of 2013 when I decided to leave my job in Altona and pursue a degree in youth ministry at Steinbach Bible College (SBC). Attending college in Steinbach has been a rollercoaster of a ride; but it is a ride in my life that I would not trade for anything. God has used this time at SBC to grow me in ways I would not have otherwise. I have learned so much and been stretched to my breaking point time and time again, but even so God is always right there to pick me back up; his faithfulness is astounding. I am reminded of the story of Joseph in the book of Genesis, despite the struggles and negative situations he found himself in; God was present with him, and took care of him through it all. The Lord was faithful, and so I think this parallels how God is with all of us in the roughest of times. Be it in the hardships life throws our way or in the darkest prisons our sins may put us. God is present, and He is ever so faithful to the promises He has made.
With that being said, It is now my third and final year at the college and I am very much looking forward to what God has in store for me this year. As this is my third year I have the opportunity to go on MX3 in February of 2017. This is a unique mission’s experience open only to third year students. The destination we are scheduled to go is the Philippines, specifically the city of Manila. This is a three week exposure trip, where my team and I, lead by our Professor Carl Leowen, will have many opportunities to serve alongside and share the Word of God with the people there. Our ministry opportunities are not yet set in stone, but we will definitely work with children, urban poor, students and local churches.
In light of this I am asking of you a couple of things:
As we prepare embark on this trip to go out and serve our brothers and sisters in the Philippines we will need a lot of prayer both in our preparation and during our time out there. Here are a few ways in which you can pray.
We are heading to a community that is very different from our own; we need to be praying that we will be sensitive to the people there.
We need prayer for boldness as we seek to build relationships with the people there
We need to be in prayer that the Holy Spirit would be at work
We will need prayer for energy, and good health; mental, physical, and spiritual.
Pray that God would be glorified.
I am also asking you to consider supporting me financially as I seek to be a part of the work that God is doing in the Philippines. The cost of this trip is $2900 on top of my tuition; and so I am trusting that God will provide. He always does! Should you choose to support me in one or both of the ways I am asking for I want to thank you in advance, any and all support is appreciated. I am eagerly anticipating how God will teach and use us in the Philippines and I sincerely hope that you will choose to partner with me in this mission.
